Our story goes a little like this...
In December of 2019, our world was powerfully attacked by a new coronavirus, COVID-19. As cases continue to spread throughout Canada, citizens are left unemployed and scared for what their futures might hold.
Throughout the chaos, citizens around the globe have come together to find the light in this storm.
From texting systems sending kind messages to frontline heroes, to hotels remaining open to house homeless locals, love is wholeheartedly felt within communities. To provide a little joy to those in quarantine, former Disneyland cast members recreated their iconic parade at home, and John Krasinski (of The Office) created a news show, Some Good News, to highlight acts of kindness.
With family and friends surrounding us at our homes and through digital communication, citizens feel safe and are hopeful for a bright future. However, due to strict government restrictions for COVID-19, many community members do not have the luxury of being comforted by their loved ones. Senior citizens living in community homes have been unable to see their family for months and are left lonely, discouraged, and scared.
It is our duty to step up as a community and send some love and comfort to the senior citizens of Niagara.

Jordyn Allan, Founder & Executive Director
Hello there! I'm so happy you have found Send A Smile.
My name is Jordyn, I recently graduated from the University of Guelph in Marketing Management. Similar to many of my peers in the Niagara community, 2020 has not gone according to plan... a change in job plans, ending my five-year academic journey online, and graduating in a horrible economy. Despite these not-so-perfect circumstances, I am incredibly grateful to be safe, healthy, and have my family by my side at home. With unexpected time to spare, I began looking into ways to help my community. I learned that a large portion of the Niagara population is over 65, and many of these residents are living in retirement communities. With social distancing regulations in effect for COVID-19, seniors living in these accommodations are feeling very distanced from their family and the Niagara community. I believe there is no better way to help our seniors feel loved than through compassionate letters written by the amazing citizens surrounding them. In that, Send A Smile was born, in hopes of spreading joy around the Niagara Community. |
